i just purchased a thunderbird 1ghz and an asus a7v133 motherboard. i am planning on buying one of the sony digital8 camcorders. what video editing card would u recommend. I am planning on overclocking my system a little to about 1.15ghz and am looking for a card that wont mind the overclock.
Not sure what you price range is for the video editng is but I was looking at the Matrox RT2000 -- selling in the US for 999.00 or less. My research shows that this is the minimum card you should go with if you want to do so decent realtime stuff -- downfall is that you have to us the graphics card supplied. On the cheaper side, Pinecals DV500 is the next card down that a I would look at. Not as much real time features.
As for stability ? Don't know and you may be hard pressed to get an answer hear. Most people running a home editing system are looking for stability and therefore will not run the unit outside the specifications.
I hope someone will reply that has, i'd like to see what they've done.
Good luck

A little word about your Digital8. I have one and I like it. I think I read somewhere on toms that the D8 is not as good looking as DV. Anyway you only get 1 hour per tape which can be a pain sometimes. But the good thing I found is that you can use Video8 tapes. Sony will not tell you this and people selling you more tapes will say it will not work. I've been doing it since I got it a year ago and no problems yet. I can't tell the difference it the output.
And technically there should not be. Digital means 1 and O's is what the information is recorded in. This is what does not make sence. Sony has a regular tape and then has the more expensive Metal oxide something or another. But as long as the 1's and 0's can be read, the decoder does the rest for the picture and the quality is the same.
Good luck
