Low Signal Strength

Forum Networking : Routers & Gateways Low Signal Strength

Recently, my signal strength has begun fluctuating from
Good to Low, with Low being the most common status.
Previously, I had Excellent & Very Good most of the
time. What would cause this to happen suddenly? We have
made no changes in our set-up.

Without knowing what Microsoft Broadband Networking hardware you're running,
it is a little difficult to diagnose the situation. General differences in
signal strength are the result of an environmental change (new telephone on
the same band, for instance, or a new electrical appliance in the path) or a
close neighbor perhaps running on the same channel.

You might try changing the channel you're using either up or down from the
default channel 6. I've found best results using either channel 1 or 11,
but I do have a "poor" spot upstairs (70-plus feet away from the router)
where the signal just doesn't work. In looking at the situation, there are
two additional walls which the signal must go through on one side of the
room versus the other side. 8-)
