I have heard that all 1.2gig TBird C's are being manufactured in Germany with the copper interconnects. With that in mind I was wondering if there is any difference between the "1200MHz TBird 266FSB OEM" and the "1200MHz TBird 266FSB Blue Core OEM." I have seen both advertised for different prices.

Don't know much about that. Maybe it's the code for the industrial retooling, .15micron?

I also noticed the difference in price. What I want to know, is there a difference in performance or temperature?

When the T-birds came out, there was a rumor on many overclocking sites that the "Blue Cores" had copper interconnects and were therefore better candidates for overclocking. Hence the higher price. But AMD came out and said that the color of the core has nothing to do with the interconnects. It has to do with the polishing compound used at the FAB. Now it is possible that more "copper" chips are blue because of the compund the FAB in question is using, but it is no guarantee of what you are getting.

yeah i think....

i know, frying that chip was probably the stupidest thing ever. and it was purple because my new duron is blue core and it's a totally different color then the tbird :frown:

Your suggestion is correct blue does indicate Cu because of the polished used at dresden. The likelyhood of better OC potential increases with Cu but this is really only an issue at the lower clocks because at the higher ones it's all Cu.

Purple is very interesting, anyone know what it means?

What clock is your duron? At some point amd will have to switch to copper durons. They're certainly getting to the point where it would be required (max Al athlon core speed seems to be ~1050). Also, at some point before the max clock it would be more cost efficient in order to keep yields up.

My duron is blue core, it's 750MHz, the Thunderbird that was purple was 1GHZ.

I think I have seen pics of two purple chips. 1 that you posted Griz. Saw the other on the net somewhere. Pretty sure that both chips said made in Malaysia on them. WTF that is worth to you- I don't know.

Let me just verify my theories.. This "colour" you're talking about, is that the [-peep-] on the outside around the core? On my new 800 Duron it covers some small gold dots right next to the core, is this the [-peep-] ya talking bout? coz my core looks greeny/purply and the stuff is blue, so that makes for total confusing coz as far as i can remember, the Ath was the same... 1.1ghz athlon was Purple/green core but i think it had purple [-peep-] round the edges...

yes thank you, that's why we are saying "purple CORE, green CORE, blue CORE," etc.

I'll tell you right now..."1200MHz TBird 266FSB OEM" and "1200MHz TBird 266FSB Blue Core OEM." are THE SAME THING. DO NOT PAY MORE FOR THE WORDS "Blue Core". DON'T. ALL Athlons @ 1 GHz plus are blue core (or purple...I guess...but i'm not getting into that!). The copper helps get higher speeds. "Blue Core" becomes an issue ONLY on thunderbirds 700-900. A 750 thunderbird with a blue core can get 1100. Please don't be mislead by dealers trying to rip you off. If it gives you peace and security paying for the words "blue core" go ahead...(Just as if it gives you peace and security paying for the words "Pentium 4"...But I digress). And I'm guessing your'e gonna overclock, so don't go for any extended warranty; gonna void it anyway!. Don't get ripped off.
