I also thought she was talented
alot better than that pop drivel coming out of Britney and Ke$cha

Her and Duffy and Joss Stone have been some of the better female singers
in the past ten years

dont get me wrong I still like my Korn,Disturbed and Godsmack
but female soul singers are nice on a long rainy night drive home with
your girlfriend :)

Female soul and blues type singers like Amy,Joss Stone,Duffy,Adell
they are "real" music
any girl with a reasonable voice using pitch tuning (auto tune) can be made into
a pop star like Britney,Ke$ha and the most of the Disney girls

but singers like Amy are a throwback to the days of Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross etc

women who didnt need machines to make them sound good

And dont get me wrong
I have sung along with my ten year old daughter to Tik-Tok (kesha)
Pure bubblegum music has its place
Great summertime boardwalk music
but it is not something that has lasting appeal

My ten year old daughter is an aspiring singer herself
Future American Idol star is the way she says it LOL
She is in the choir and has had dancing lessons
She is actually on Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZUOWUpe144

Her stage name is Molly Mystic

those are older videos
please dont laugh at poor video and audio work
those were tests to get familiar with Youtube
I had to do upgrades so I can start making some semi pro productions

I invested in Sony Vegas Studio 8 (bought my friends older copy since he upgraded)
also Cyberlink Power Director 9
plus I got Reaper audio recording software
(trying to save up for something pro like Fruity Loops,Acid Pro)

I also bought an Asus Xonar DG for now
and am looking at used MAudio recording sound card on Ebay

eventually want to build a small audio/video studio in the basement

so I try to show my daughter "real" music
I even got her to watch Barbara Streisand,Cher,Janis Joplin etc
and of course Madonna,Janet Jackson,Paula Abdul

so losing a singer like Weinhouse is tough
her personal life was a mess but shouldnt distract from a quality
singer
insulting her after she is dead is wrong
well at least wait 5 years and then make jokes :)

A house full of musicians here ... no singers though really.

We use a Yamaha DSP Desk and Audigy Pro through a laptop.

I have recording mics, and a studio (bout 7 metres X 7 metres) which is lined with plasterboard and Soundscreen (a Bradford product that kicks serious a$$ in terms of sound deadening a room).

We jamm a lot and I have invited badge over ... once he saves up for his flight.

We have a lot of musical gear now ... even two mandolins and everything stringed and a decent drum kit (22 piece now with good cymbals and a double kicker that I might just throw over the fence one day).

We are fust finishing the plasterboard (I think you call it drywall) internal lining and it is all powered up with R3 batts in the roof and a 2.5 HP aircon.

I plan to move out of the house when it is finished ...

^+1 Nice

I record vocals,keyboard and guitar
though the instrument playing is very basic
My daughter will be going for either keyoboard or guitar lessons in the fall

My problem now is the latency especially with the vocals
when you are monitoring what you are singing you have a lag

I am looking at the MAudio

problem is I have a low profile tower so it will have to wait until new build

Wow I know every single one of them
I actually saw Blondie in Philadelphia at the Tower Theater when she
did a new album about 1998 or so
Awesome show
I dont care how old Debbie Harry gets I will always be in love with her :D

My two older sons have this weird folk band (see my sig) which is really just them telling Gaelic folk tales to music ... currently ranked top 6th folk band in the state ... and they have never played anywhere but put stuff up on reverbnation. I don't really get it but they are working on a third album and doing some editing ... meh ... (shakes head).

The third son is a guitar player in a local band now.

I end up loaning out a lot of my stuff for their gigs / jamms and having people over here to jamm ... but thats what it is all about.

I never got to see blondie ... but I have always been impressed with their drummer.

Technically this is (in my mind) along with Rapture one of their most technically profficient songs.

Solid drumming

Good bass ... with a bass lead further in !!

Good rythym (simple lead)

Nice keyboard work

Excellent vocals ... obviously.

Well mixed for the time.

Rapture is still my favourite but this was a top dance song back in my day too ...

Rapture by Blondie has a place in music trivia
It was the first "rap" song to be a number one

What was great about blondie was their many different styles
from punk to disco to rap to reggae
they came out of CBGBs in New York at the same time as Talking Heads and Ramones

Now my favorite band of all time
number one without a doubt

The Doors
all musicians classically trained in the band
Robby Krieger (guitarist) was Flamenco trained
Manzarek (keyboards) and Densmore (drums) also trained and playing
since children
I met Robbie Krieger in 2000 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ
He had his son doing vocals
kid looked like Leonardo DiCaprio and sang exactly like Jim
I asked Robbie about the picture of the doors in front of a military cemetery
and he told me the story of it
I got his autograph

to this day I will still see a teenager with a Doors shirt at the mall
also you could do a slight remix of People are Strange
and it would be a number one hit right now
been remade by alot of modern bands

Well hopefully Amy wherever she is
is having a beer and a shot with Jim :)
