No real surprise.

RIP Amy ...
July 24, 2011 3:42:19 PM

I wonder if her being dead now will affect her stage performances any worse than what they currently are :p ..
July 25, 2011 3:10:48 PM

A few stings to jerk her around with and she'll to just fine.
July 25, 2011 3:55:35 PM

She was still a person show some respect. You may not have liked her but im sure her family did. There is a time and place for jokes.
July 25, 2011 10:28:50 PM

I also thought she was talented
alot better than that pop drivel coming out of Britney and Ke$cha

Her and Duffy and Joss Stone have been some of the better female singers
in the past ten years

dont get me wrong I still like my Korn,Disturbed and Godsmack
but female soul singers are nice on a long rainy night drive home with
your girlfriend :)
July 26, 2011 1:25:23 AM

I knew that was coming after watching a live concert on youtube. She was blasted and sounded like ***. Crack is wack!!!!
July 26, 2011 10:45:53 PM

Female soul and blues type singers like Amy,Joss Stone,Duffy,Adell
they are "real" music
any girl with a reasonable voice using pitch tuning (auto tune) can be made into
a pop star like Britney,Ke$ha and the most of the Disney girls

but singers like Amy are a throwback to the days of Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross etc

women who didnt need machines to make them sound good
July 26, 2011 10:47:29 PM

And dont get me wrong
I have sung along with my ten year old daughter to Tik-Tok (kesha)
Pure bubblegum music has its place
Great summertime boardwalk music
but it is not something that has lasting appeal
July 27, 2011 12:29:40 AM

My ten year old daughter is an aspiring singer herself
Future American Idol star is the way she says it LOL
She is in the choir and has had dancing lessons
She is actually on Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZUOWUpe144

Her stage name is Molly Mystic

those are older videos
please dont laugh at poor video and audio work
those were tests to get familiar with Youtube
I had to do upgrades so I can start making some semi pro productions

I invested in Sony Vegas Studio 8 (bought my friends older copy since he upgraded)
also Cyberlink Power Director 9
plus I got Reaper audio recording software
(trying to save up for something pro like Fruity Loops,Acid Pro)

I also bought an Asus Xonar DG for now
and am looking at used MAudio recording sound card on Ebay

eventually want to build a small audio/video studio in the basement

so I try to show my daughter "real" music
I even got her to watch Barbara Streisand,Cher,Janis Joplin etc
and of course Madonna,Janet Jackson,Paula Abdul

so losing a singer like Weinhouse is tough
her personal life was a mess but shouldnt distract from a quality
singer
insulting her after she is dead is wrong
well at least wait 5 years and then make jokes :)

July 27, 2011 1:36:45 AM

off the top of my head
Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison I think without looking at list
also Jimi Hendrix maybe

Correct, also Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones, among many others.

strange

Maybe when they sign the contract with the Devil to be
a rock star that is the contract term?

:)  :)  :)

A house full of musicians here ... no singers though really.

We use a Yamaha DSP Desk and Audigy Pro through a laptop.

I have recording mics, and a studio (bout 7 metres X 7 metres) which is lined with plasterboard and Soundscreen (a Bradford product that kicks serious a$$ in terms of sound deadening a room).

We jamm a lot and I have invited badge over ... once he saves up for his flight.

We have a lot of musical gear now ... even two mandolins and everything stringed and a decent drum kit (22 piece now with good cymbals and a double kicker that I might just throw over the fence one day).

We are fust finishing the plasterboard (I think you call it drywall) internal lining and it is all powered up with R3 batts in the roof and a 2.5 HP aircon.

I plan to move out of the house when it is finished ...

^+1 Nice

I record vocals,keyboard and guitar
though the instrument playing is very basic
My daughter will be going for either keyoboard or guitar lessons in the fall

My problem now is the latency especially with the vocals
when you are monitoring what you are singing you have a lag

I am looking at the MAudio
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=maudio&hl=en&p...
problem is I have a low profile tower so it will have to wait until new build
July 27, 2011 3:59:59 PM

Wow I know every single one of them
I actually saw Blondie in Philadelphia at the Tower Theater when she
did a new album about 1998 or so
Awesome show
I dont care how old Debbie Harry gets I will always be in love with her :D
July 27, 2011 4:04:14 PM

My two older sons have this weird folk band (see my sig) which is really just them telling Gaelic folk tales to music ... currently ranked top 6th folk band in the state ... and they have never played anywhere but put stuff up on reverbnation. I don't really get it but they are working on a third album and doing some editing ... meh ... (shakes head).

The third son is a guitar player in a local band now.

I end up loaning out a lot of my stuff for their gigs / jamms and having people over here to jamm ... but thats what it is all about.

July 27, 2011 4:14:48 PM

I never got to see blondie ... but I have always been impressed with their drummer.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x263ys_blondie-atomic_...

Technically this is (in my mind) along with Rapture one of their most technically profficient songs.

Solid drumming

Good bass ... with a bass lead further in !!

Good rythym (simple lead)

Nice keyboard work

Excellent vocals ... obviously.

Well mixed for the time.

Rapture is still my favourite but this was a top dance song back in my day too ...
July 27, 2011 4:34:13 PM

Rapture by Blondie has a place in music trivia
It was the first "rap" song to be a number one

What was great about blondie was their many different styles
from punk to disco to rap to reggae
they came out of CBGBs in New York at the same time as Talking Heads and Ramones

Now my favorite band of all time
number one without a doubt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDN9y2vTdUs

The Doors
all musicians classically trained in the band
Robby Krieger (guitarist) was Flamenco trained
Manzarek (keyboards) and Densmore (drums) also trained and playing
since children
I met Robbie Krieger in 2000 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ
He had his son doing vocals
kid looked like Leonardo DiCaprio and sang exactly like Jim
I asked Robbie about the picture of the doors in front of a military cemetery
and he told me the story of it
I got his autograph

to this day I will still see a teenager with a Doors shirt at the mall
also you could do a slight remix of People are Strange
and it would be a number one hit right now
been remade by alot of modern bands

Well hopefully Amy wherever she is
is having a beer and a shot with Jim :)

Possibly their best drumming effort (Clem Bourke) ... never released as a single in the US though ... was Union city Blues

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvqgb1D6Opw

you pulled out two AWESOME BLondie songs
Atomic and Union City are two of my favorites
never big songs but some of Blondies best work
Debbies vocals were never better than on these two songs
Union CIty is actually only about two towns away from me
Debbie Harry grew up in New Jersey
I also have been to Bruce Springsteens boyhood home in Freehold NJ

New Jersey gets insulted alot
but many famous people came out of this state
July 27, 2011 4:52:42 PM

Where is that dock where they setup the drums ... wasn't that where the US built a lot of their old steel warships back in the 40's ... ??

His high hat and power drumming work was solid ...

Very tight and talented band ...

Hard to say where the dock is
I would have to google
There is so many docks in Jersey

You think I would know that since Military and History channel are my
two favorite cable stations

And I bet that Debbie Harry is a fan of Amy Winehouse :)

Hmm, I was surprised that Paris Hilton didn't join that club.

However I would not be surprised to see LiLo make the club..

Sorry about that.

We dont need no stinkin hollowood :(
August 7, 2011 2:37:08 AM

Damn ... it was that really slow song Nora does ... the video where she is in the old car travelling ... come away with me.

August 7, 2011 6:34:12 PM

The clothes aren't the reason that the song didn't become bigger in the US (though, it is pretty well known). The reason it didn't become bigger, is because more people are into the faster/harder style of music. Pop, and alternative music seem to be much more popular.

Music videos are rarely seen anymore anyway. The channels that used to show music videos (MTV, MTV2, VH1, Fuse) rarely show videos anymore. They've turned into reality TV channels.
August 7, 2011 10:37:19 PM

true
it is nice to see Adele doing good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAc83CF8Ejk&ob=av2e
that is someone like you
actually doing good on FM radio in US
good to see there is still some taste in the USA
most of FM in Northeast USA is Rap and Dance

dont get me wrong
I can get into a Lil Wayne or Jay-Z song
but top 40 in US is worst than ever
barely any real music in the US top 40
someone like Adele is awesome to hear
August 7, 2011 10:51:32 PM

I'm not a fan of lil wayne at all. I think all the 'new' age rap is garbage. The classic 2Pac, Ice Cube, Biggie, etc... were good, but it's not that quality of rap anymore.

The issue is, that slow, rhythmic sound, like the corrs acoustic, isn't big in the US. Most would much rather listen to alternative, pop, or country.

She showed no respect for herself or anyone around her - I have absolutely no reason to show respect for her, either. Didn't have any reason to when she was alive, and being dead doesn't make you any more glorious than you were when you're alive. You're just not breathing any more. Doesn't mean you deserve a medal of honor for being dead. Bah.

Her family? Maybe they should have really tried to help her. Maybe they could have made a difference. Maybe not - life just shits on you sometimes. Nobody ever seems to give a crap for the soldiers dying in the middle east fighting for their country, but god forbid a drug addicted pop 'star' die from drug abuse.

And there you have my opinion on society in general. Flame at will. :ouch:  I'm sure those two paragraphs are going to be quite a hit to my reputation around here... oh well. Just another opinion in the world.
August 8, 2011 3:26:52 AM

I actually like that How to Love song by lil wayne and some of the rap rock he is trying to do
but I grew up with LL Cool J,Run DMC etc

but my heart belongs to rock
I miss Neil Young and Allman Bros type songs

rythm guitars and real drums
nice tasty leads

even liked Chris Isaak in the nineties

you are right Top 40 doesnt have that anymore :(
