Keep the computer, put a lan card in it, and network it to your NEW computer for multiplayer games.
Theres nothing you can do with it really. That is assuming you want to play new games and use new programs. Case in point: Loaded Alice today. Min requirements are a 400 mhz. Same with Giants and Sacrafice... Min is bad. That's not even the recommended setup..only min.
The harddrive will be slow, so you'll want a new one. Same with the memory and video etc...
If you want to salvage parts, keep the cd-rom, dvd, and floppy, but everything else needs to be new if you want to reap the benefits of a new machine.
Keep it though and use it as a second machine. There's nothing wrong with it, but tech has advanced pretty rapidly these last 2 years due to AMD's competition.

if your needs have outgrown that computer then i wouldn't bother to upgrade it. it would be better to start from scratch with a new computer. but, by all means a p2 400 isn't garbage. can your parents use it? a friend? if you are going to throw it out...i'll take it
If it is ATX, it probably has an Asus motherboard with the extra features removed. Knowing this, you could always get a BIOS chip for it if it is removable. I believe HP used Phoenix bios and Asus used Award. The good news is that if you can get a bios chip of the correct type from a similar board, you can flash it with Asus bios and it will probably support all PIII 1GHz processors that way (with the proper converter card). Without the proper voltage controling converter card or compatable BIOS update, you are limited to the old 600MHz Katmia core. You can also get overdrives for your system from www.evertech.com
Hey, you can always try! Try setting the bus speed at 133MHz and see what happens. There actually was a 600b (not "EB" ) with the Katmia core that was 133x4.5!
