I recently purchased two CPUs that were advertised as two Pentium IIIs xeon processors. When I recieved them, the cases said Pentium II xeon. I attempted to install them and was shocked to see that the supposed PIIIs didn't even fit into the PII slots on my motherboard (Tyan Tiger 100, which is upgradable to PIIIs). It seems that the processor board has not two tabs of connectors (PII), but three tabs and is approximately 1/2" too long. The only numbers I have found are on the board inside the cases. Can anyone shed a little light on this for me, because now I am confused and I'm starting to think that I got screwed. Are the PIIs and PIIIs different sizes? If not, what the heck did I buy! Aaarrgghhh! ( Thanks )
The slot Pentium II / III chips use a Slot 1 format.
So a Xeon chip will not fit into a Slot 1 (Pentium 2 / 3) motherboard. And a Pentium 2 or 3 won't fit into a Pentium Xeon motherboard.
Either send your Xeons back and get regular Pentium 3 slot 1 chips, or get a Pentium Xeon slot 2 motherboard.
I hope that this helps.
