I need serious help, Just got a amd 1.2 cpu and a ABIT KT7A
motherboard. When I turn my power on, my moniter sits in standby mode, but I can here the computer go to post. I have a asus 6800 geforce 256 on the board now. Pulled it out and put in my old tnt 2 and it still does the same thing, tested my monitor on a 2nd system I have, but it works just fine. Was wondering if my AGP slot is bad? If
anyone has an answer please let me know,,,

Thanks in advance....

I'll bet you have the CPU fan plugged in the wrong spot. There are two connectors right next to each other. If the fan isn't plugged in the right one it won't post.

Do you have access to a PCI video card? See if that works. If it does go into the BIOS and into the Integrated Peripherals section. Init Display First is probably set to PCI. Change it to AGP.

If that is not the problem see if you can find an answer at Paul's Unofficial Abit KT7 FAQ.

I'm leaning toward it being a power supply problem. WWW.GeforceFAQ.COM recommends that your PSU be able to supply 20 amps on the 3.3 volt line for the combination of Athlon + Geforce256 (TNT2's use a lot of power, as well, but not as much). (A typical 300-watt PSU only supplies 14 amps on this line). If yours is inadequate consider purchasing a new one but check the individual specs of any PSU you consider. I like the Enermax EG351P-VE (330 watts, 30 amp on 3.3v, 32A on 5v, and 12A on 12v). I believe this unit has been replaced by the EG365P-VE, 350 watts. (I don't know the individual specs).
