This is my first build... I finally got my OEM 1.2ghz 266fsb Athlon-c and got everything set up w/ my KT7a-RAID. I powered up for the first time and my CPU auto-detected at only 900mhz!!! wtf!?!? Did i get ripped on a bum CPU? I went further in the BIOS and manually set it up to run at 1200mhz/133fsb... but shouldn't it have detected it at that in the first place? I'm worried, did I pay for a 1.2ghz and get a 900mhz just because it was OEM!? Please help, thanks!
have you updated your bios? If it was indeed at 900mhz and you switched it to 1200mhz @ 133fsb it wouldn't run so I think your ok there. Sound like your missing a bios update to support 133fsb cpu's without oc'ing.
I haven't gotten to update anything yet, everything is straight out of the box... Is there a BIOS update that is supposed to fix this (if that is the problem)? Also, could it still be a possibility that i got screwed? heh, I'd like to eliminate any fears as soon as possible here. thanks again.
I think by Default KT7A mobo runs at 100MHz DDR FSB (or 200MHz). That's why it detected your CPU as 900MHz (Multiplier 9 X FSB 100MHz = 900MHz). Just in case, you can check the marking on its die. It should be A1200XX ... 'something'.
This link shows you the die of an Athlon 1300MHz (A1300AMS3B ). If the last letter of your CPU is C indicates that's the Athlon 266MHz FSB

oh yeah, i knew it was marked as a 1.2ghz Athlon-c, but i heard some rumors that some OEM chips are low-quality rejects from the factory and eventhough it was marked right, i thought i might have gotten royally screwed, heh. But thanks to all of yall! I'll be sure to get that BIOS update ASAP!
