What is this $shtdwn$.req? found it on my windows 7 yesterday and when i open it

found this on computer and my boyfriend says he doesnt know what it is but it was downloaded or opened when he was on it last. What is it? It said it would open with windows shell something.. File name $shtdwn$.req and when i open it wit word pad it has this text Sdwn [] [] A'??

think it may be leftover from when the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool was run

but as already said virus scan anyway

Download malwarebytes free edition....update it then run a full system scan.
