Im using Thermal Tape that came with the heatsink/fan

anyhow

Which is better for overall cooling?

My friend just bought a 1 GHz Tbird and he just has the tape
Its really cool actually 38-40C under Load..

But i mean thats good but i wanna know which is better for over all cooling

Gel or Tape?

I would think the Gel is better but does it relly cool off a lot better or a little?

Opinions?

I would say gel (I'm assuming you mean a thermal paste compound like silicone heatsink compound, ie thermal grease). When I attended the AMD reseller conference, I had a chat with one of the techinal presenters who was covering heatsink installation and thermal issues. He said without a doubt, use thermal grease. He said that thermal tape isn't bad in theory, but they use grease in the AMD labs because it simply is more consistant with regards to performance. Just my $0.02.

If you haven't lapped the bottom of your heatsink, using arctic silver will make a huge difference over tape and oxide. Sounds like 40C under load with tape is a little low. You might check it with an external source.

wow is that a real post?
I would go with as2 over the stock pink stuff. You should try laping too.
