Finally did it, after multiple attempts.
Only found one red armor, tried to preserve it for the final fight, but
it got destroyed there. If I hadn't run into a supercharge right
before the final level, I probably would not have survived, as I had no
health packs.
I basically just ran through the last two levels of hell before the
Cyberdemon fight, as I was running low on ammo (hence the relatively
low kill percentage). I tend to favor health packs/rockets/plasma ammo
toward the end of the game, even though I do most of my killing with
the chaingun and the various shotguns, which really are the best weapon
for handling a crowd of enemies.
Here are some observations:
Cateye and Ironman appear to me to be the most important traits. I can
see other traits being useful if picked repeatedly, but seeing as you
only have 7 picks in a given game (unless you find a lever that
generates hellspawn and just keep on killing them) I can't see why
you'd spend them on something other than Cateye and Ironman.
the spiders appear to be by far the toughest enemies. I have less
respect for the hell knights/barons, as they appear a bit easier to
finish off from a distance. In mid-game, cacodemons gave me the most
trouble.
Is it just me, or is the plasma rifle a tough weapon to use at long
distances? Maybe I should have spent my picks on better ToHit from
long range. The rifle fires 8 bullets per shot, and I routinely had
only 2-3 hit the target (unlike my beloved chain gun...).
Also, I am not nearly good enough with computers to take this game
apart, but it would be nice to have some numbers on the weapons we get
(time it takes to fire/reload, time it takes to switch between weapons
etc.) We already get the info about what damage they do (unlike the
original Doom) so why not go Full Monty and give us the rest of the
info? Maybe it would make the pistol trait worthwhile, hm?
Well, without further ado,
