I am sure that AMDMeltdown and FUGGER will say I am an idiot, but I have to ask:
Below I have cut and paisted benchmark info from a link provided by Fugger (www.spec.com). They are submitted results of the Spec2000 benchmark that Fugger claims demonstrates how the P4 obliterates the t/bird.
Intel Corporation Intel D850GB motherboard(1.3 GHz, Pentium 4 processor) 483 473
(Please see the spec page for explanation of scores)
Now for the question: If the P4 is architecturally superior to the Atholon, why does it perform slower even when operating at 100 MHz fatser clock speed?
Again, I am sure I must be a lemming and an idiot, but the answere seems simple. It isn't. (Sure there are architectural imporovements, but if they significantly improved performance, why don't we see it in the benchmarks. Surely the P4 does not rely exclusively on software optimization for improved performance.) It merely performs better becasue of the faster clock speed.
I really couldn't care less which is better, so long as which ever chip is better is in my machine. I do not intend to insult anyone, but I would sincerely like to hear convincing arguements from those who hold to Intel's superiority that the P4 is in fact better in light of the above info.
I will admit, the P4 at 1.5 G does in fact blow away the T/bird at 1.2 G, but again, this does not seem to be because of better design, but faster clock speed.
the main problem with the p4 right know is that they hacked it up to get the chips price down and doing that hurt its performance
atleast that what most people beleave
i can't wait to see what it will be like when they actual make it to the orginal specs
you shouldn't have to be so scared to debate a processor. There is nothing wrong with debating the CPU's, the problem is then going ahead and saying that one of them sucks and being persistant about it. You didn't do that.
I think you bring up a good point. The answer seems to be that Intel was in a hurry to get their chip on the market. Have you seen the commercials? They play them every single commercial on every station. The next gen P4 will also be called the P4, so the average consumer won't know that the first release wasn't very good. Hopefully if all goes as planned, Intel will release the complete version of the P4 with a solid performance.
