Apparently quad-core, mobile i7 have switchable graphics

So yesterday, my brightness wasn't working. I couldn't change it no matter what I tried, restarting, reinstalling drivers, power options, I could not seem to fix it. So I contacted HP support and here's what the guy suggested I do:

Okay. This is the same however reinstalling it from the device manager may resolve the issue. Did you try to right click on the desktop and click on switch graphic card in your PC and check for the issue?

Apparently, my i7-720M supports switchable graphics. Why have I been letting this 5850 stay on the entire time?

Oh tech support, you never fail to amaze.

  4. I'm pretty sure he knows now. I made it quite clear that it didn't have integrated graphics.
