Windows 7 hides empty drives doesn't it?

Put a known working DVD-ROM disc in and see if it appears within 3 minutes.

Put a known working DVD-ROM disc in and see if it appears within 3 minutes.

It can if it's not been used after X amount of time. It's one of those pesky "power management" issues that M$ tried to force.

OPen windows explorer, hit the alt key, tools menu, folder options, select the "View" tab, under advance settings deselect the box "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder"
