How to connect acer aspire 5742 to tv

Hello, when i connect my lcd tv with laptop via hdmi, the display occurs only on lcd and not on laptop screen.. i want different displays on oth screen as well...need help

You need to go to display properties and change it. Right click on your desktop and click on "Screen Resolution". Next to the option that says "Multiple Displays" change it to "Extend the Desktop".
