You talking actual Freeware or looking for warez spots? I got a coupla good sources recently, but we're talking warez. I'd have to agree with sourceforge for the freeware/shareware stuff.

I've just installed warez so I'm a complete novice at it however I was under the impression that the software searched every available shared file on the Internet .

If this isn't the case then would you explain a little about it please , thank you.

Tis true though, when you DL software that comes from suspicious websites or its name implies it's a modified version, I'd watch out. I've had a virus once out of a small crack or keygen, I forget which, and it ate my entire system's stability until it invaded my boot record too, so it would not delete even if you removed Windows. (it would actually restore Windows)

Use safer alternatives like Torrents and DC++. Limewire for music I'd guess, but software is a bit less on the safe side. It's too similar to Kazaa when it comes to executables being downloaded with infected data.

I don't doubt that this would be a easy way to get infected . However it would seem that if you're downloading something, using for instance four or five computers to download from, that either all of those computers would be infected or what you're downloading is safe.
I know someone could place a virus in their own file with the idea that someone else would uploaded onto their computer but since you're getting sections of files from different machines how could he determin in advance which section of file you are going to upload ? Also it would seem to me that a virus uploaded in this manner would corrupt the ability of the software or program that you were downloading in so much as to make it inoperable .

I don't doubt that the viruses have spread in this manner and I am admittedly a novice at these sorts of things but it seems at least unlikely that I would get infected from this.

I've heard before that bit Torrence are supposed to be better, but it seems that downloads our way faster using waraz.

Why do you consider bit torrents to be much better?

Torrents, in my experience, and probably many others', are relatively safe, and are some of the easiest way to get your newly released programs, games, films, etc.

They can be quite fast if you know where to look as well, and you're only limited by how much you can give back. Warez, in ye old day was found in those IRC programs or those sites with "crackz" that would launch at you about a dozen porn popups. They often were files that were cracked like hell, compressed, injected, you name the word, they had it done to the file, so you can later on download it, unpack it and run it as it is, without installation. That often made things messy and long too. So I'd rather get real programs from Torrents, with their full install files. They're more than likely to be the original source files from the CD anyways, only someone will often pack a crack file or keygen in there to help you out.

So this is why I'm not using the word warez to describe modern downloaded files or encouraging the old method, the IRC way or the 'hax0red' website way.

I've used torrents sites, I have bit tornado that I use to download the Torrants. The couple that I have downloaded seemed to take forever . And one of them would not work At all after I spent all the time downloading it .

I may not have it set up correctly to be able to download fast. I tried to avoid the files that show a long wait .

But if you're downloading from many users using a method like Torrents, then yeah I think your theory is fairly correct, that it's more safe than risky. But peer-to-peer methods like Kazaa have proven to be true deathtraps.

Torrents take time to build up in speed. It may take an hour before reaching maximum speed, alas.

Some good torrent sites are:

There's loads of others.

Of course I only use it to download freeware, and download... erm.. "backups" of my DVDs, because ripping them myself would consume too many CPU cycles and impact my gaming...[/yeah right]

If you have an Audigy 2, the software has a feature that cleans up clicking and popping in your MP3s, on the fly. Pretty neat though I can't seem to get it to work right yet.

So many features in that MediaSource stuff.
