Pink line in Acer H233H

Vertical pink line just right of center on my 3 year old Acer H223H monitor. Limited research suggests its most likely a LCD problem so my questions are:
1. What are the odds that replacing the panel will solve the problem for a worthwhile amount of time?
2. What panel should I buy? Just needs to be compatible.
3. Is replacing panels in external monitors as straightforward as it is in laptops?
