A friend of mine got Windows ME working on a laptop with 133Mhz and 64MB RAM. I really don't know how he got it to work because it's not even supposed to install on anything below 200 Mhz i think. I guess he hacked around it somehow, and if he got it to work on a 133, the 166 mhz should work fine but it may have problems because your PC has only 32MB. Maybe if you have a 32MB module to spare you should use it and try, if not, then I don't think ME will even run. You should at least try anyway.
If I'm not mistaken ME will tell you before installing that you don't have the minimum requirements and it won't let you install. This was the part that you'll probably have to hack around. Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help but now you know that at least Windows ME CAN be installed on a machine below the minimum requirements.
VGA or higher resolution monitor
Pentium 150MHz processor or better
32MB of RAM or better
480MB to 645MB free hard-disk space
CD-ROM drive
28.8 Kbs modem or faster with current Internet connection
Sound card
Speakers or headphones
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
lol, winME booting on a 166 w/ 32megs:
1)push power button
2)go eat dinner
3)check progress
4)grab a quick snack
5)load first application
6)take nap
7)ok, i'm out of anything remotely resembleing funny, why in the hell would you put yourself through this?
At the core of every system: "I'm sorry dave, i'm afraid i can't do that."
Yep, there will be TONS of swapping to the HD. If you had some spare RAM it would make much difference. I had a 166 with 32RAM on Win95 and it took like almost a minute to load Word 2000! LOL!!!
