I am trying to decide on specs for my new AMD Athlon based computer, Is it better for performance to have a 1.0 speed processor with PC2100 DDR memory (266 FSB), or a 1.3 speed processor with PC1600 (200FSB). It seems to me that I think at these high of CPU speeds the memory will matter more,... but.. I wanted to ask the forum. - Thanks
You'll see better performance with the 1.3 gHz processor over the 1.0 gHz processor, simply because of the 30% speed increase. The price difference between PC2100 and PC1600 DDR SDRAM isn't too much, so why don't you go for the 1.33 gHz Athlon with PC2100 RAM?

Go for the faster CPU. The high speed DDR memory has a protocol flaw which causes more memory bus collisions than successful accesses. You won't see any performance gains.
Why would you ask such a stupid question? Get the 1.33 and the PC2100! PC2100 is cheap at www.crucial.com! You would not save a significant amount of maney with the PC1600, in fact it probably cost more!
