No matter which route u take BACKUP ALL IMPORTANT DATA. You can try deleting everything under device manager but I dont think it will work. The best thing to do is a clean install. That way youll know there is nothing left from the old MB. Just remember if u have a legal copy ull have to do the activation again and prove that youre not pirating it.

i agree w/sturm. because not only do you have new drivers but also a new mobo chipset and features based upon that chipset which you will have to install as well as deleteing you old chipset info. clean install is the only way to go.

How hard is it really to prove to Microsoft that im not pirating their software? and what do i do, do i go ahead and do a clean install then call them up, or should i contact customer support first?

Don't worry about it.
Just do a clean install of Windows.
You may not have to reactivate your copy of XP.
I have had one copy of WinXP Home and changed the motherboard, cpu, graphics card, three times.
I even replaced the hard drive and my copy of WinXP activated fine after clean installs.
Prior to installing service pack one on a couple of clean installs I had to call MS to get reactivated. It was easy. They did not ask any questions.
If you have to reactivate and the reactivation is denied Windows will give a serial number and phone numbers to call to get reactivated. You can call anytime of day and it takes about five minutes to get a new activation code.
