Any one know how much faster a p3 is over a p2 at the same MHz.

I don't think there were any major changes to the core besides a little shrinking and adding SSE. For non-SSE enabled applications they'd operate at about the same speed if run at the same CPU clock speed. The benefit of the P3, in addition to SSE, was the ability to have it clock a bit higher.

The Coppermine P3 uses 256mb L2 on die cash at core speed . This is the fastest P3 .The second fastest P3 Katmai core had 512mb off core L2 cache at half core speed. The P2 uses 512mb L2 off die at half core speed. Major core changes.
The P3 has SSE instructions

I aint signing nothing!!!

at the speeds the PII and PIII overlap, the differences are negligible.
in integrated L2 cache makes a difference, the higher the clock speed, the higher the difference.

I think thats 256KB and 512KB... Maybe the Pentium Thirteen will have this much cache :)
