Anyone else happen to hear that they pushed through a law requiring adult websites to "either 'prove' that all their quests are over 18 or be shut down". This is not just about porn. Think about it; the only way to prove something like that is to provide the government records of who visits thier sites. This is something they've been trying to get done for a long time but haven't been able to due to privacy issues; it's a violation of your privacy and it's also unconstitutional.

People are taking this abuse under the impression that it's to protect our innocent youth from the perverse, which is an absolute lie. What they've actually done is managed to finally get their foot in the door to get access to your personal information and surfing habits. The FBI can now demand that you give up a personal iformation of every person who visits your site. This would be credit card numbers, your name, location, birthdate and so-on. WTF?!?!? We still can't even get a unanimous decision to prosecute lynchings in south but we have to pass legislature to ensure no one under 18 has even the possibility of maybe seeing a naked body???? What's the world coming to man?? So, what, it's ok for a mob of white power morons to hang a black man in the town square just so long as there's no nudity involved???

A: It's not the government's job to regulate what your child does, it's yours, THE PARENTS'
B: There are far better things for us to worry about then this.
C: This doesn't protect the youth, it just gives the government a reason to be able to demand access to information about you and me that they really don't need. They've been trying to get the patriot act to cover this. Since they couldn't get it approved that way, they chose pornagraphy as a disguise for this crap.
D: What this really does is put another restriction on your freedom of information and speech. It's now their decision what to deem perverse and what's not. The government can now force a web site to shut down because they don't approve of the content. Even if the host can 'prove' the site's visitors were of age, they now have a list of everyone who has visited the site and personal info on said person.
E: We're now forcing those people who do have these sites and want to remain profitable to move their servers off shore. Once again we're pushing business out of our own country.

Why is this country allowing our own government to take away one freedom after another? We are slowly and surely giving away our freedom. And once they have it, it's damn near impossible to get it back. We give up one little thing at a time and pretty soon we've lost a whole lot. We should never give up even a small amount of the freedoms that have made this country great. We allow these things to be done out of illogical fears inflated to unrealistic extremes by the very people who want to control what we see, what we read, what we say, where we go, and even what we think. Making alcohol illegal won't eliminate alcoholics. Having drugs illegal hasn't eliminated or even minimized the amount of drug addicts. Making guns illegal won't stop violent crimes. And making porn illegal won't eliminate perverts, even underage ones.

LEGISLATING MORALITY DOESN'T WORK.

This particular type of law actually infringes on the very heart of our would-be free country: the right to choose what goes into your mind and your body. Adult websites aren't forced on us just as adult magazines, drugs, alcohol, and violence aren't forced on us. Everyone has the simple right not to do it. The role of government in these things is to allow you the right to choose what to do and what not to do, as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's rights. And yes, this means that evey person in this country has the right to do or say the very thing that you despise the most. That's freedom. The absolute right to be offensive and the right to be offended. Great, be offended. But taking away the very option for that person to choose whether or not to do what you find offensive is not freedom. Unfortunately, most people don't see this until the focus turns toward something they hold dear. I know this is a bit off my original topic, but it's all part of the same problem: our freedoms being taken away, and us asking for them to do it.

The bottom line is that infringing on the privacy and rights of evryone does not stop the criminal few from being criminals . Having cameras at every 10 feet of every builing in the country wouldn't prevent crime. The hijackers from the twin towers hit went through the video cameras at the airport. That didn't stop that horrible act. Armed civilians on the plane might have. They didn't fly libraries into the towers either, nor did they learn to fly at the library. They were taught by licensed instructors in the USA. Yet they want to police library records because that will help identify possible future terrorists??? If reading about terrorism, bombs, crimes, etc. is grounds for the authorities to investigate and prosecute then anyone who receives any major newspaper falls directly into that category. And, evry TV news show and host falls into the category of saying these things repeatedly. So, since they're the ones saying the words "terrorist, bomb, Muslim, Koran, Jihad, etc.", under that logic they'd be the ones these types of laws would target. This type of thing clearly creates easy ways for corrupt people in power to justify spying on and/or persecuting anyone they like. Or, at the very least, enough vague and non conclusive data flying around to make every single person in the country targetable by even the most well-intentioned law officer or agency. The point to all this being that we are giving up (have already given up) our freedom to personal privacy, free speech, and freedom of religion under the false premise that it will PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS. ????? So, we're giving up freedom to protect another? Anyone else find this totally ridiculous? Especially since I've shown you very simply that honest, law abiding citizens say, read, and write all those words and phrases even more than the would-be terrorists themselves?

The government is assuming the role of parents to its citizens. I do not foresee turning it back, but will support any effort to do so.
I really think we have passed the beginning of the end, but think the end is still thousands of years away, it will just be a decline in free will until the end...

The United States government cannot even successfully monitor itself no less it's people. I mean if the government was actually worth a [-peep-]. Then we would not be 8 trillion is debt no less the richest nation in the world. Richest nation in the world and 8 trillion in debt just does not add up.

Does it?

How can the United States successfully pass legislation that invoke peoples' rights. When the government cannot even successfully govern its own spending habits. It's a complete joke. I'm going to laugh my ass off when a big recession hits and the people go nuts and storm Washington. You might see people’s heads on pikes. It will not be long until it all caves in and the American people are left with a problem that should have never been a problem in the first place.

Well to be honest. It's the government's fault! The people have been screaming to stop the spending for decades. They kept up with their ways. Now the U.S. dollar is only worth half of the Euro. The U.S. bond market is failing and the stock exchanges has done nothing in the last couple of years. I'm intend on making the jump to Europe after I graduate because of what I foresee coming. Will the EU feel a U.S. recession or depression. Sure! But EU and Asian trade agreements have never been stronger than today. Plus, the EU possesses a much stronger economy than the United States.

I was totally unaware of this . I am in no way supporting pornography but this isn't about that , it's about free speech . I googled "adult websites proof of age "and found plenty on this subject .

Quote :

Proposed changes to 2257 would add numerous new requirements for adult webmasters. The current law applies only to "primary producers" of adult material; the changes would affect "secondary producers," including websites, that distribute content created by other companies. The implications could mean an administrative nightmare for porn site owners. The proposal that has adult Internet companies the most concerned involves mandatory records inspections. Under the rules, federal officers could demand to inspect records with no notice. Producers could be inspected as often as once every four months, and even more often if the feds think violations might be occuring. Furthermore, the federal officers would have the right to sieze any evidence they believe to be related to the commission of a felony.

It seems this follows the same mentality of people who want to ban all weapons and firearms . They think that the government and our legislatures can invoke morality through legislation . Well I'm sorry but the only way to improve morality is by improving our families and thus society .

Legislation and the laws are there to punish people when their lack of morals steps out of bounds of society.

P. S.

Thank you so much for bringing us back on topic, which was the government stealthily stripping our freedoms out from under us under false pretenses. We move closer and closer to dictatorship or totalitarianism or fascism, however you want to put it, every day. And the rate is accelerating.

And yes, it's exactly that same illogical mentality at work here. Thanx for the backup.

Its amazing how the US goes overboard in some areas and is completely delinquent in others, for example our US capitol, Washington,DC is probably the most unprotected area in our country, and for part of 9-11s attack being on the Pentagon itself the lack of security is really unbelievable.

Every day thousands of commuters ride the Metro rail system, workers carrying their toolboxes and packages back and forth and never being checked, even if a metal detector alarm goes off they are still not checked!

I know that for a fact not hear say, my last job was in DC and I carried my toolbox on the Metro train and it was big enough to require wheels for easy transporting, and also big enough to be used for a seat onboard the train, everytime I went through the turnstyle security it set off the alarms, I passed through 4 different times and set off the alarms because I had metal tools inside, I could have literally had anything inside the toolbox, but not the first time was I asked to open it to check the contents, I wasn't even confronted at all even though security guards were in the Metro rail system.

Homeland security better wake its a$$ up and start doing its real job, of protecting this country from attack, and not worrying about insignificant crap like porno sites not doing their job of screening their customers, before some terrorist group realizes how vulnerable the DC area actually is! But in my opinion DC is just a pawn in a chess game anyway, if DC was completely lost the decision making part of the government would survive, so DC is like fishing bait so to speak!

You may think I'm exagerating but if you work in DC you know its the truth, it makes me wonder just how many really weak areas this country has, that have been completely overlooked or ignored, while they're wasting time on useless BS, its like a city that doesn't put up a traffic light at a really bad intersection until about 5 or 6 families are killed at that intersection then they realize the need for the traffic light,[after the fact], thats probably whats going to happen in DC.

From what you're saying in your post I think that without you realizing it what you're calling four would be about as anti American and against the very freedoms that we enjoy As you can get .

I think Israel and Jerusalem in the present day would make an excellent example in this case. Bombs exploding in public places and on buses are a common occurrence there . I'm sure that their security is about as tight as you could possibly make it . In spite of Israel's best efforts security wise, the terrorists bombings still happen on a frequent basis .

It's my opinion that America cannot afford to allow our society to be reduced to one in which we live constantly in fear for our lives . That's a big part of what our current war is about. Thankfully our leaders are doing their best to take the fight against terrorism , to the terrorists instead of allowing our country to succumb to the terrorists desires . There may have been misinformation and bad intelligence reports , and they did not find W. M. D's as we were told they would , but it's my belief that it was the right decision to go to war and fight the terrorists on foreign soil.

And as for the people who are screaming for our government to bring our troops home now before we complete our agenda , all I can say is one flipping Vietnam is enough ! Our soldiers who died fighting the terrorists and the ones currently serving in the Middle East and at home supporting the war the serve nothing less than or full support and prayers for a fast victorious resolve .

Ryan , I am not belittling what you said, I am only saying that maybe you should stop and think what it would be like if our nation's capital had to be locked down and turned into essentially a green zone resembling the one in Iraq.

What!!! You haven't flown anywhere lately have you? Anti American? What I'm saying Russell is there are areas our security is lax in, and those are the areas they need to be concentrating on, not worrying about some pornography, just stopping pornographic spam would be a great idea to me, but I don't think that has anything whatsoever to do with Homeland Security either.

I'm not talking about frisking every single person on the Metro, and I honestly don't see where you're coming from with your comparison, but if a metal detector alarm goes off, doesn't it make sense to at least have the person open the tool box, and see if there are tools in it?

Do you also think we aren't going to suffer repercussions from all this, that the terrorists attacks against us are over and you are safe as a bug in a rug? I think we need to support our troops absolutely!!! Because they're just doing what they've been ordered to do, just like our troops were ordered to do in Nam, when they literally were backstabbed by our own government. I do not think that we should have gone into Iraq in the first place and I was against it from the begining, because I think the true goals weren't revealed to the US citizens, Bin Laden wasn't in Iraq Russell, wheres his head on a platter? Thats what I'd like to see! You're really getting way off subject of what this post was about.

Ryan, for being gullible , no I don't think that I am Gullible . I think that we went to war as a result of terrorist attacks on 911 , and Iraq and Afghanistan was where our chance of striking back against the terrorists would do the most good .
Everybody focuses on why we should not have gone to war in Iraq because they believe the U.S. had shady and shameful hidden reasons for the invasion . What you don't hear is people complaining about Afghanistan . That's because they can't come up with any viable argument that would support the U.S. invasion for any other reasons than to fight the terrorists . Because Iraq is a rich in oil , people think that's the reason the United States invaded . I'd like to ask them how much oil United States got from Iraq since the invasion . Another thing you never hear about is how our troops are building schools ,the country's infrastructure and so forth . There are no headlines about good deeds or at least darn few of them .

Damn it , wake up America . We've been attacked on American soil and we are now at war, and if a enemy attack in New York City isn't reason enough to go to war then I guess all the soldiers that lost their lives in world war two really should not have fought just because Pearl Harbor got bombed .
No sir, you won't convince me that attacking the terrorists by declaring this war wasn't the right thing to do .

And if that makes me gullible , then at least I'm a gullible American patriot .

It's not realistic for him to get a job in either of those countries (DK, SE). Cost of living, taxes, xenophobia, unemployment, and the need for a connection to even get in the door ahead of everyone else will turn him away from the whole thing.

If someone says they want to work in Europe the only country I think is practial in any way or form is the UK, but that's just me. Salaries and benefits are good, unemployment is fine, there is very little language and culture barrier, and the pound is strong. The problem is that it is expensive.

Russell, Afganistan was a direct attack on our part to eliminate the man that US intelligence laid the 9-11 attacks on, Bin Laden, and I was all for that.

If Bin Laden is truly responsible and the brains behind the 9-11 attack on our country, then I'd like to see his head on a platter, and I've already previously stated that, but when I said, I thought the US had a hidden agenda to go into Iraq, did I say anything about oil?

I've already told you I was against the invasion of Iraq period, but I do stand behind our troops since they have been committed to this war by our government, you seem to be imagining more than I am actually saying, and not hearing what I am saying.

Since that seems to be the case here, we're building schools? No! we're rebuilding what we blew the hell out of, but at least it is rebuildable, right and not contaminated for 100 years or so. I guess in your thinking that makes it OK!

Sometimes in history it becomes necessary to question authority to make sure they're acting in our best interest not just believe every thing you're told, and that should even be more of a presidence, when they've already been exposed on some subjects as liars.

No weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but we were led to believe there were, we were lied to flat out, when are you going to realize that?

Damn it , wake up America!

As you said Russell, but for different reasons!

why is it that any and all conversations have to lead to discussion on Iraq????

That is precisely the point of the OP. Never mind the freedoms of people in other countries. They're using that kind of thinking as a smokescreen to slowly but surely strip freedoms from the people in the US. And the masses in the US are so wrapped up in the belief that this type of thing is necessary and warranted because we're "at war", so we voluntarily cough 'em up.

Once those in charge get control over anything from the people, no matter how small, THEY DON'T GIVE IT BACK. We're loosing the most basic of all freedoms; the freedom of choice. We're loosing it under the basic premise that we can't be allowed to make our own decisions about what we see, hear, read, or consume because we're too stupid to make the right decision.

That is not freedom. That is the very opposite of freedom. It sounds alot like Communism to me. The State knows whats best for you so let them tell you what you should do. Then we will all be safe from the neighbor making the wrong decision and viewing pornagraphy in his own house, or getting high and passing out in his Doritos, or reading something in the newspaper that might offend him or you.

The right to offend is the very nature of Democracy. Don't like it? Then don't watch it. But don't make my decision for me and I won't make it for you. But, for God's sake, don't give both our decisions to the Government to make for us.

Maybe it's just me.
