I hope it's ok to ask for opinions on hardware, I didn't see anything in the rules that prohibits this.
Can anyone recommend a laptop in the $400-$500 range? I'm probably going to have to replace mine today unless the community can help me fix my issue (another post)
Here's what I use it for: I'm replacing an HP G60-243CL with a 17.2" screen (I know the 15.6" is easier to find) It's my "2nd PC" that I use almost exclusively for downloading and watching movies and almost nothing else. I use my HP desktop for work and use the Lappie to watch vids next to it while I work. So the most important features would be downloading speed and good video. I'm a gamer, but this PC won't be used for that. I also watch video content wirelessly from my DirecTV so I need a 10/100/1000 Ethernet (think I got that right). My current lappie has the NVidia 8200 so I want nothing less. Memory isn't crucial, I can always add more and never ran out of space. I'm a creature of habit so I'd prefer an HP, but I'm willing to learn new stuff.
If I'm not pushing my luck Al, is the Ghz the "power" of the PC? So if I have a 2.1 GHZ PC, even though it's 5 yrs old, am I taking a step down by shopping a new 1.7 Ghz PC? I understand a new PC will have current features my older one doesn't, but I'm talking about raw power, the abiltiy to handle downloading large video files at a good speed.
