Hi there, I'm trying to use an older dial up software (which works fine on win98) on a new XP machine but it could not find the com3 port where the PCI modem is. Any help would be much appreciated. BTW Happy Holidays.

Is your modem driver installed? You might need to get the xp driver for your modem if winxp doesn't have the driver for your modem. I believe that you can use winxp dial-up connection to do the dial up instead of using the old software.

the modem on the XP machine is installed with the right driver and is running fine with other dial up software. My problem is I'm trying to keep running a proprietary piece of dial-up software which is not easily replaceable. Are com ports handled a little differently in XP, so that they are invisible to win95/98 software?
