MML2 Case Mod Contest To Be Judged By THG

So you think that you will have the most tricked out rig at MML2? You will get the chance to prove it in the MML2 Case Mod Contest.

MillionManLan 2 is pleased to announce that Tom’s Hardware Guide will be presenting the MML2 Case Mod Contest, to be held at MillionManLan 2 in Louisville, Kentucky from June 26-June 29, 2003. Tom’s Hardware Guide is working with sponsor, Western Digital, to give MML2 attendees the chance to expand their storage as well as to win some great prizes for showing off their latest case mod creations.

First Prize – Western Digital 250GB External Lighted Special Edition Hard Drive

Second Prize – Western Digital 200GB External Hard Drive

Third Prize – Western Digital 80GB External Hard Drive

All three winners will receive a special surprise pack of goodies from Western Digital in addition to their prize. (THG might even throw in one of those hard to get, limited edition THG T-Shirts, too!)

Cases will be judged according to creativity, design, and imagination. All winners need to be present to win. So, get inspired, get to work on your case and show us what you can do!

The Case Mod Contest will start Thursday, June 26th at 5 P.M. and judging will continue until the winners are announced on Sunday, June 29th at 1 P.M. Judges from THG will be looking at every case and selecting the winners from all MML2 attendees. No need to sign up, just show up at MML2 and you are already entered.

In addition to the Case Mod Contest, THG has teamed up with case manufacturer Chenbro to sponsor the “Worst Case At MML2” Contest. Are you the one most in need of a new case? Show up with the worst looking case at MML2 and you could walk away with a brand new Chenbro Xpider case. The Xpider case is so new that you will be one of only a handful in the U.S. that have this hot new case!

The Worst Case Contest will be judged the same way as the Case Mod Contest, but the focus will be to find the computer case that is in the worst condition. The computer inside this shabby case must function, and its owner must be playing on this system during MML2. While creative entries will be considered, the focus is clearly on the one case that distinguishes itself as “the worst” at MML2. The winner will also be announced on Sunday, June 29th at 1 P.M. and must be present to win.

There is sill time left to register and seats are still available!

In your opinion will the contest judging favor form over function, or visa versa? In other words will the Michelangelos or will the Dilberts be on the winners podium at the end?

It will probably be a little bit of both.

At the Fragnation Event we gave 2nd place to a guy who hooked up a garage door opener reciever which could turn his PC on or off at one push of the remote.

The guy who had 1st had a sweet case with a nice LCD on the front of the case... Very tricked out and still very functional. I think he also won one of the tourneys.

Maybe there should be 2 classes: form, or function. To me what works the best looks the best, but I've noticed not everyone thinks this way.

For the form comp well you know....windows, fancy paintjobs all that stuff.

For the functionality comp....how about a 3DMark point per system sound level competition. He with the fastest/quietest wins.

We need more of the second type and less of the first type from what I can tell.

It is hard to say.

All cases are not the same. Some ideas are better than others.

Without seeing it, it is difficult to say what may or may not be something that catches my eye.

The best suggestion that I can offers is to look at some of the past LAN parties I have covered on THG and look at some of the winning cases.

That might help.
