I think its down to a lack of knowing the English. Probably saying I can start windows 7 64bit but none of my other programs will work with it.

If the case, right click on the Icon you use to run the program, go to properties in the menu presented. Click on the compatibility setting tab. and set the program to run in for example xp Sp 2 mode. apply it then exit.
Then right click again on the Icon of the program and select run as an administrator.

Sounds like your Windows 7's file associations are messed up... try the File Association Fixer and tells us how it worked out.
