So I am in need of a laptop of some sort for school, learning how to program, and learning information security. I have heard the dell latitude line of laptops are a good start. Any suggestions guys? My price range is anywhere up to $500-600.

Thanks for the help!

I have 2 suggestions that I think would work out for you.

The first is the Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 at $499. It is a highly capable machine that should be able to do all that you need from it. It has 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB hard drive. Plenty. Here are some more specs:
Screen
14" (1366x768) HD
Processor
2.4 GHz Turion II Dual-Core Mobile Processor P540
RAM
4 GB DDR3 1066 MHz
Storage
500 GB HDD 5400 RPM

The other is the Acer Aspire AS5740-6491 at $599. This one is a little bigger. Delight in vivid multimedia with the Acer Aspire® AS5740-6491 Notebook PC, featuring a 15.6" LCD screen, Intel® Core™ i5 processor performance, and Dolby Home Theater® cinema-style surround sound. The i5 is smooth though. Here are more specs:
Screen
15.6" VGA (1366x768) HD
Processor
2.26 GHz Intel® Core™ i5-430M
RAM
4 GB DDR3 1066 MHz
Storage
500 GB HDD 5400 RPM

What do you think? These should be great machines for you.

Screw Toshiba and Acer. Get ASUS. If you don't game on it or really rare, then get the Asus UL or U series. They are VERY LIGHT weight, AND has very good battery life for a good price. 5400 rpm drive with 1 gb graphics card with core i3 or i5 for some. Battery life on the website says 10 hours when it's actually around 8 hours. :ouch:
