Ah, thanks for that, something else just became clear.

When I up-Hearse a bones file, I get back a message
saying roughly: the archive contains <around 4k>
bones files and you uploaded <a couple dozen> of
them.

I just had the "ah ha!" that I'm not imagining
seeing that second number go _down_, but that it is
not a "how many bones files I've contributed via
Haerse altogether" count but a "how many bones files
I've contributed that _currently_ survive" count.

That just means I'm going to have to die much, much
more often to move up in the rankings.

With my playing skills, that won't be much of a
challenge at all.

[You might want to put up a link and a "top 100
current contributors" list, or some such, to
make Hearse contributions competitive in the way
SETI[at]HOME (trying to avoid Google mangling
that as an address, grrrrr) contributions get
ranked and folks compete for ranks. Of course,
being at the top of the SETI contributor list is
an honor; I'm not sure being the most prolific
producer of Hearse bones files would be looked
at in quite the same way.]

FYI

xanthian, BMAH (big man around Hearse).

Yes, bones files expire off the server either after a certain length of
time or a certain number of downloads (depending on how many bones file
exist for that particular version).

The problem is that the only way I have of identifying people on a
webpage list is by their email address, and I've assured people that
their email address will not be given out, used for any other purpose,
etc. Else you'll just have a long list of 'User ID 1938 uploaded 195
bones, user ID 2856 uploaded 193 bones, etc etc" :)

That's quite aside from the fact, as you mention, that some people might
not be too chuffed to be revealed as Captain Dies-A-Lot.

I have idly thought about putting up some kind of Hearse stats page,
maybe I should upgrade that from 'idle thought' to 'Copious Spare Time
[tm] task'.

So you expand the Hearse protocol a bit, adding a "publishp" field to set if
they're okay with being put there.

Well, it's a thought.

Yeah, you're right, it's worth a thought. I will certainly put up a
stats page in any event, free time permitting.
