Just got back from seeing the remake of War of the Worlds, I still cannot believe what I just saw, probably the best acting Tom Cruise has done his entire movie career, the most spectacular special effects I've ever seen, it was like a rollercoaster you couldn't get off of, shortly after the action starts you're literally in a state of shock until the end of the movie, there were a couple of times/// Well I'm not going to tell you, go see the movie, I promise you won't regret it!

Your prejudices will cheat you out of an excellent movie then Daniel, yes Tom Cruise is the lead actor but the special effects are worth going to see alone.

An yeah, Tom is a hippie bs scientologist, and obviously a closet gay seeing him on Oprah jumping at excitement over his new love, but he still is a good actor. Remember Risky Bizness and Top Gun and Mission Improbable...

Some movies the previews special effects, are the best parts of the movie, you have no idea what you're going to be seeing, the preview special effects are maybe 1 100th or even less than that of whats in the movie, its been a long time since I went to a movie and left the theatre in a combination of shock and awe.

George Orwell hated the first movie....This one is truer to the book. Cruise is at his best here. Not a scientist, he's a blue collar crane operator. You're wrong this time DH...by the way he (Orwell) did like the radio play with orson welles

Sheesh. I'm being a DA. Of all people here why would I not see this movie?

I was going to see it today but didn't get to it. I'll probably see it after the holiday weekend. I'm still debating on whether I want to watch the original first. I haven't seen it in a long time and can't even remember most of it.

As for Cruise. He's being weird regarding his blatent hatred for psychology but his views on extraterrestrial life are right on. He really needs to just get out of the spotlight.

I've read Hubbard's book. It's crazy. Crazy religion I tell you. Almost as crazy as Chr....ah never mind.

I did see that...but I'm awful, I almost hate to see him do well....and it was great, i liked Collateral too...I like him when he is real. What was the movie where he played a high school football player trying to avoid being a steelworker. I liked that one too...

Since you aren't going to see the thing I will tell you this.

He actually really is an actor, not just a paid monkey, when he's trying to hold it together and things are going bad faster than the mind can even comprehend, and you're watching the movie trying to figure what the heck you would do if you were in his shoes, he really does some good acting, way better than The Last Samauri.

The previews they showed were nothing I was about half way through the movie wondering why they didn't show more action in the previews, people would have been lining up to see the thing.

IMO its the best movie I've seen this year, including Star Wars 3, there were previews for the remake of King Kong, I don't know if he's into scientology or not, but his movie looks pretty good also.

"War of the Worlds" was good acting, was his best I think. He played an ordinary guy...he was scared the whole time...think about it if that were real...you wouldn't be a super hero you be just like he was, running for your very exsistance...The opening and closing speech were right form Orwell's book. another tidbit when Cruise reaches boston and meets her parents that is Gene Barry and
Ann Robinson the original two leads from the 1953 movie...

Actually, yes, and I forgot about that movie. Damn. Add that to the list too. Did enjoy that, and lik you said, it makes a change to see someone in a movie not only holding a gun correctly, but using proper tactics. His moves in the nightclub were most impressive. Normally I want to rip my own arm off just so I have something to throw at the screen when hollywood focks that sort of stuff up, but he got everything spot on. Then again, I'd expect nothing less from Michael Mann. Look at the firefight scene in Heat. 100% on the money. Found out not long ago that it was choreographed by Andy McNab, now a writer, but ex-SAS no less.

My missus hates going to watch an action movie with me because I rip that stuff to pieces. Always cracks me up when some tough guy picks up 2 Uzi's and starts spraying without any recoil whatsoever, and even more amazingly, his arms stay in his sockets.

Watched Lethal Weapon 3 again a while back, and there a scene where Mel and Rene are being chased by the scumbags. In the open street, they all cap off on full-auto from waist height, and with their targets no more that 50ft, the bullets are hitting the ground! Commonly known in our house as Bad Guy Bullets. Makes me laugh and scream with equal measure.

ROFL I didn't even put that together Tee, I was in shock that his son walked out of the house, all I could think of at that point, was how in the hell did he survive?

That movie was like shock therapy, the action actually starts about 10 min into the movie, I'm still pondering over the scenes, my wife and I were talking about when the ships were first breaking out of the ground, they were so huge and the people were staring in amazement and all I could think was RUN! RUN! RUN PEOPLE! WHAT ARE YOU STANDING THERE FOR RUUUUNNN!!!! It set a panic stage in the viewer right there, and left you with a feeling of helplessness, everytime they stopped somewhere I was like, what are you stopping for keep going, and those feelings didn't turn you loose through the entire rest of the movie!

We only collect DVDs of the very best movies done, and that one will be in our collection.

ROFLMAO

Reminds me of the A-Team, they'd shoot for 10 straight minutes and not hit a thing they were shooting at but accidentally blow out a tire or something.

Or movies with 6 shot revolvers that never have to be reloaded, they just keep right on shooting.

Hollywood should at least have weapons consultants, guns will run out of amunition and have to be reloaded people!

Or he started the movie with a 45Auto, now he's holding a 9mm Beretta, but he only has one gun??? Oh crap he's holding a 45 again, that kind of incompetence totally ruins a movie for me.

Sure movies are an illusion its a little part of our lives that we allow our imaginations to play and wander, but for adults to enjoy a movie that have any military background at all, you have to get the basics on the money, you just cannot use 45cal ammo in a 9mm pistol, good try dude but CUT, redo that scene please or just don't do the movie!

My wife is clueless to that kind of thing and cannot understand why it bugs me, but for me it destroys the believability of the movie, and then I start looking for screwups and the movie becomes a waste of money to me.

I haven't seen this film yet but I assume there will be a scene with tom cruise pumping his arms wildly whilst running down the street. I think just over half of his movies have a scene like that. He's a wacky scientologist, but a great actor. Anybody hear Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds? It freaked me out when I was a kid.

well they commonly use 9mm in movies because the way they cap the barrell so the powderflash can be seen(even in daylight; yeah right, regardless) they bore the barrel down and put a cap on it to maximize the flash, the problem with .45 they cant get it to rechamber a bullet after the shot, so often then will use mockups 45's(made from a 9mm shell) or if they shoot with the .45 youll see the slide stay back like they are out of ammo.[/over analytical]
