Best viewing distance from monitor?

Hi, I have a 24" Monitor at 1920 x 1080 and I'm trying to decide on a good distance for my monitor to be from me on my desk. What is a good distance to keep the monitor that will look good, not be too far away, or damage my eyes? Also, I mainly use my computer for gaming if that makes a difference.

said distance will vary from person to person.

you need to make sure that the text on screen is comfortable to read so you do not have to lean forward or squint yet you do not want the monitor too close or everything looks huge.

personally i tend to put it farther away. i have two 19 or 20" monitors at work about 2.5 feet away. 1280x1024

It depends on the person viewing the screen. Everyone has their own preference.

I typically sit approximately 24" away from my 25.5" monitors. About 34" when I am leaning back.
