I am at the bottom of the gnomish mines, and have found one grey stone in a
corner, so I can not kick test it.

How do I test to see if it's a loadstone?

Unfortunatly my pet is not around (and once I get up to it, I think it'll be
ferral), so I can't make it test it for me.

Also, shouldn't there be two stones down there?

I only found one so far, and can't really see where the other would be.

If you cannot dig around it to kick it you may teleport it away to a
better place.

Depending on which mine-end level you are there might also be no load
stone at all (apart from the ones randomly generated).

Maybe you just found a randomly generated stone, then. The others
(I think there are often (always?) three or four down there) will be
hidden. :) How spoiled do you want to get?
Potions of object detection are your friend.

As for identifying the possible loadstone, you probably know that
kicking heavy things will distinguish them from light things. So you
just need to get a clear kicking space. Dwarves carry things which
may help you clear out some space. ;) Wands of digging may be of use
as well. And of course you can always waste a ?oRC or some holy water
to weed out loadstones the quick and dirty way.

Ah, yeah I had a wand of teleport.

I found two other stones finally. (2 on top of each other, stacking),

But anyway, I decided to go back up to minetown to misbehave and managed to
get killed. But next time :)

I found them allright (the hidden ones). But the walls were to hard to dig
with the pickaxe, so kicking didn't work. :/

I don't think your pet could help you with this anyway, unless you're
hoping it'll pick up the stone. Loadstones are not cursed until you pick
them up, so a pet won't shy away from it.

Can a cat or dog even pick up something that heavy? Seems unlikely.

I dropped an uncursed load stone in wizmode and it became cursed on
after been _dropped_...

You drop an uncursed loadstone.
You see here a cursed loadstone.

You can determine loadstones by exclusion (if you don't mind ignoring
the cursed variants of the three stones)...

Fritz picks up an uncursed touchstone.
Fritz picks up an uncursed flint stone.
Fritz picks up an uncursed luckstone.

They _always_ get cursed when leaving your inventory. (Hmm, at least when
you drop them. I'm not sure about putting into containers and I'm too lazy
to dig the spoilers or source now.)
If you happened to pick one up, you should non-individually #name it
BEFORE dropping it.

I thought that was exactly what I wrote above. (At least that's what I
wanted to express.)
