need to get a server for web hosting, networking and massive data processing.. so i'm scouting for the right processor for a server. I've been sniffing around for the best server bargain... so far i've found most servers that are recomanded to me are dual P3 or the P3Xeon
is there no other processor out there??? .. i mean i'm just starting out... Xeon is pretty heavy on my wallet... please advise
best bet in this situation is a dual PIII.
the Xeon isn't THAT much better, imo...
there is a large cache version of Xeon, but most of them are the exact same as the PIII Coppermine, right down to the 256k L2 cache, the only difference being the slot packaging for Xeons and the higher price.
also, just to throw this in, in my experience, Windows NT 4 sp6a is more stable than Win2k server or advanced server. We're sticking with NT4 for now, although our next server *may* be a custom Win2k machine.

why, oh WHY, is the world run by morons?
well, get a dual-p3, its the best one right now. Intel's STL2 Serverworks ServersetLE chipset server board would be good, with built-in management tools, 133 MHz support, integrated LAN/SCSI/video. go for Intel validated parts.
and dont install Win2k, Win NT 4.0 server with SP6a is better and stable.
Linux will be lighter for your pocket. Asus CUR-DLS with same specs is also good one.
get a good RAID option on if you plan to store large data.
