As several here surmised, my previous two "bugs" -- draining to level
0, and multiple messages for intrinsic acquisition -- were by-design
features. I got kind notes from Pat Rankin explaining the rationale for
each. (Pat did admit that the intrinsic-acquisition messages were not
as subtly different as they could/should be.) I also promised Pat to
vet such maybe-bugs in this newsgroup before submission.

I don't think that this is doing any harm; the discussion
about whether or not a behaviour is intended sometimes is
quite enlightening. Maybe one should be more careful about
calling it a bug from start, but bringing up such questions
is a rightful part of the rgrn traffic.
