Hello, everyone! As the title of the thread says, I'm having trouble using the scanner feature on an HP PSC 1401 printer/scanner. Basically, I try pressing the scan button, and the on/resume button just blinks while absolutely nothing else happens.
I'm not sure, but I suspect it may be an issue with the driver/firmware. See, the printer belongs to my parents, who own a mac (*shudder*). They used to own an older mac, which they had to replace because the screen started to malfunction. The printer was originally connected to the older mac. The new mac, of course, has a newer version of the Mac operating system (I believe the old one was 10.4, while the new one is 10.8), so I'm guessing that the current driver/firmware is probably having compatibility issues. Unfortunately, the HP website has no download link for a new driver/firmware, as it says that I need to obtain it through Apple's own software update program. Of course, checking that program yields no such download. It's impossible that my parents could have installed the driver/firmware themselves, as they are, as I have said, computer-illiterate.
Like I said, I'm not sure if the driver or firmware is actually the issue, so if I'm wrong, tell me. Either way, I need help getting the scanner to work.
