I bought a recovery disc but i cant get to start menu

I bought a recovery disc however I can not even log on to get to the start menu, the system acts like it is logging me on then logs me right back off. This all started when I got a virus. What can I do now?

Hi

GO INTO BIOS and set BOOT ORDER to boot from cd FIRST...

Then make sure disc is in drive and start machine...
