Hi, I bought a new microphone, the ones which you can clip onto your shirt. I tried putting the 3.5mm microphone jack (the red ones) into my laptop headphones and microphone jack and it wouldn't record or even detect the new microphone. Can anyone help? By the way, I use IDT Audio control panel, and the mic I'm using is this http://www.polarjp.com/p2.asp?Cat_ID=62&PD_ID=215. I'm not sure, but I think the main reason it cannot detect is because the mcrophone is only a microphone jack and the laptop has both a mic and headphone jack. My laptop is this http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c02159512&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=4173644 Thanks

The manual says this about the headphone/mic port:

Produces sound when connected to optional powered stereo speakers, headphones, ear buds, a headset, or television audio. Also connects an optional headset microphone.

So, it sounds like you can only use a special HP headphone/mic with this laptop.
