We have already had loads of polls asking what machines everybody is using. The question now is: What do you use your machine for?
And I don't mean at work... your home machine only!

It's tough to differentiate between home use and at work. I am one of the lucky ones who works from home. No dress code, no commute, not a bad deal at all.

So, when I am done working, my personal computer is used for the following:

1. Software developement for a side business that I own.
2. Bookkeeping for my Wife's business.
3. Gaming (networked to 3 other machines in my house)
4. Education (kid's homework)
5. Internet (AOL dial up is on this machine. My work machine has a cable modem from Comcast).

Not hard to understand. I work from home, and need fast Internet access. My children also like to use the Internet, but cannot when I am connected. Yes, I can share the connection, but must keep my work machine as clean as possible. My kids may download anything, and I cannot afford to risk a virus (even with virus protection). So, both of my kids machines have AOL accounts. When they are on line, my work machine is turned off to prevent any possible infection. Plus, my kids find AOL very easy to use, and most important, its parental controls are excellent.

Most of what I do is music related. I record concerts, transfer the audio to my PC (via toslink optical connection) normalize and edit as necessary, and then burn to CD-R. I'm getting cable Internet next week, so I hope to be doing more online shn trading, and maybe an ftp site from my new PC. Other than that, I do some web design, MS Office, a little coding (trying to learn C++), and communications. I like speed and throughput for the audio applications (CoolEdit2000, EAC, CDRWin).
