I was invisible and sink water came up as a see invisible potion the
message I got said "You can see through yourself, but you are visible."
It said I was visible when I was invisible just cause I could see
myself. is that a bug?

Asher

Also as I was looking through the known bugs list, I saw this:

Cats speak Italian instead of English.

I have never encountered a talking cat in person or in nethack.
This is just weird.

But you *are* now visible to yourself. It's true that most monsters still
can't see you, but from the point of view of your (unspoiled) character,
you don't know that yet.

Evelyn the dog, having undergone further modification, pondered the
significance of short-person behavior in pedal-depressed panchromatic
resonance and other highly ambient domains... "Arf", she said.

Well, actually, "You can see through yourself" suggests that he can
sort of tell there's something going on with the visibility of the
character. I interpret that sentence as "You are invisible, and since
you can see invisible, you can see yourself except you don't look
particularly solid."

Yes, that's probably the most obvious hypothesis from the character's point
of view. The other possibility is that #quaffing from the sink/potion
somehow rendered the character partially visible. The unspoiled character
won't know which is true until he or she observes how monsters react.

I see nothing wrong with the message as it currently is written. I would
object if it were changed to something like "although you are invisible,
you can see yourself!" How would the character know how he or she appeared
to other creatures?

The words "cats", "Italian", and "speak" do not appear anywhere on the
Nethack bug list.

C341-55 fixed Cats speak Italian instead of English.

(This refers to how cats used to say "miao" when chatted with)

Ah, right. I tend to think of "the bug list" without qualification as
meaning "the bug list for the current release", which explains why I
couldn't find that.
