I have IBM R40 with Radeon 7500 and read there a review on this graphic chip and it showed up that the change shall be possible. Is it true (in case of my IBM)?

No, the GPU in the R40 is built in to the motherboard. It cannot be changed without removing the entire mainboard.

..Not to mention Dell, who were the first to use a modular/replaceable graphics card.

but with the dell you have to gamble with the bios supporting the card, shipping it to dell to have them do it......

Well, no. You see, If you have a D800 with say, the Mobility Radeon 9000 (- which they did have for a brief period), and then Dell release(d) the new GeForce 4 Ti 4200, you could "upgrade it". Just because the I8600 has a new graphics card, doesn't mean that you on your old I8500 can now upgrade to it, but if they release the GF FXgo5650 on the I8500, you could upgrade to it.

This is all beside the point, however, as you if the card fits your machine - regardless what model it is, there will always be a way to upgrade it. All you do, is flash your Dell's Bios with that of the Dell that the cards is designed for, and voila.

And you can't send it to Dell to upgrade your card, they won't do it -unless it is exceptional circumstances - you HAVE to perform the upgrade on your own.

P.S. They are the most upgradable so far: A Dell Inspiron 8100 (Pentium 3-m notebook), can be upgraded with a Quadro4Go 700 (Essentially a GeForce 4 Go 4200).

This is my first notebook, so I wanted to know... I´ve build a few PCs before and didn´t know that it is that hard to make changes in notebook configuration.

And, where did you get all the info regarding the "inside" of the notebook (integrated graphics, ...)?
