My wife is playing a neutral monk that has assembled what appears to be
a reasonable kit for ascension. Along the way, she has also managed to
raise a formidable army of pets including a few dragons, and has had the
fortune to come across a saddle. Long story short, she was enjoying a
ride on a black dragon in Gehennom when a powerful lich (not sure
whether arch, master or demi) managed to bestow a curse upon the saddle.

It is chilling to be told that you cannot reach down from your perch to
pick up items or loot containers, and that you cannot dismount because
your saddle is cursed, yet resists all normal methods of removing
curses! We both feared she would have to find a way of getting the
dragon killed from beneath her in order to get out of the predicament.

Fortunately, although this situation is rare, it has been encountered in
the past and a suitable set of alternatives was found using a search in
Google Groups. As luck would have it, one of the early spells she
learned (and refreshed knowledge of partially by mistake!) was knock,
which solved the problem without causing pet loss or serious injury to
aforementioned monk.

A big hearty thank you goes out to the group for being such a valuable
resource for players wanting to go the extra mile in this crazy,
wonderful and unbelievably rich game.
