I've played Nethack since I was a wee laddy of 8 or 9.

Here's my first YASD post.

My most successful chaotic Monk had reached the 10th level of the
Gnomish Mines. He acquired a nice wand of lightning, good armor,
plentiful food, and a cockatrice corpse that reduced the most potent
adversaries to a goofy statues.

So he got hungry, and not wanting to accidentally turn himself to
stone while eating with a cockatrice in one hand, dropped the cockatrice
and began to eat item "y" in his inventory.

"There is a cockatrice corpse here, eat it?"

y

My mouthful of iced tea drenched my new monitor.

You actually experienced how important inventory management is; reserve
slot y for something that won't ever can do any harm, maybe a luck stone.
It also helps using standard letters for often used items, k for key, to
just mention one of the most apparent.

Better luck next time.
