Hi everyone,

I just curious about Core Voltage. I recently change my PSU from 145W (yes, sound pity but it's micro-ATX) to 250W and I got Core Voltage reading change. I have to admit that I have no clue what are these voltage referring to. So, here is my reading (on the current PSU 250W):

Core 0: 1.75V
Core 1: 0.24V
+3.3V: 3.29V
+5.0V: 4.88V
+12.0V: 11.83V
-12.0V: 0.00V
-5.0V: 0.00V

The +5.0V reading seem to be low and lower than the previous reading when I have my old PSU on (145W). Please let me know if any of these readings are seem to be wrong or somewhat low or high. The meaning for each reading would be appreciated=)

The motherboard usually reports different frequencies than the actual line should be (but they ARE within tolerances) as it is near impossible to get EXACTLY 5.00 volts, etc. 1.75 volts is the norm for your T-bird, though.

The only thing that looks wierd is the - voltages... that probably just means that the motherboard just doesn't monitor them. If your computer seems to work fine, than there's nothing to worry about,

Thanks,

I just curious because the old 145W PSU never have too low voltage report on MBM5. But when I install new 250W PSU, I get lower voltage especially +5.0V. Anyway, they are in the tolerable range, I guess (+-10% would that sound ok?).

Thanks.

I've found such voltage levels are perfectly tolerable.

In case you're wondering, the reason you're getting 0V on the -5V and -12V is because you have no ISA devices. ISA devices are the only devices which require those voltages.

Ja...come to think of it...the only power supplies I've seen with such low wattage are old, old AT power supplies and SFX power supplies.

Even the power supply in my uber-old IBM AT286 was a 200W.

Man, I'm surprised your system would even run well with a 250 watt PSU, let alone a 145 watt one. From what I've seen, anything under 300 runs in to problems. But hey, if it works, i guess you can't complain.

That oughta void your warrenty!

It is surprising to me too. I never thought that it will work with 145W PSU. Beside I don't really have any choices in the beginning since the comp that I put new MoBo and CPu is my girlfriend comp and she like the case so much (it's IBM case, look pretty good). It is micro ATX and come with 145W PSU.

So I decide to buy a new PSU but it take a week to get 250W micro ATX PSU that fit in the case. So, I tried the old PSU and Vola! it works =) In fact, work perfectly fine. I just have problems with voltage with this new PSU (250W). They are fluctuated a little bit (i.e., change from 4.75-4.93V for +5.0V). Is this normal? I guess it is fine since I can play game and run all the benchmark ok but just to make sure that I will not gonna blow my comp someday =)
