[patch] meatloaf

John H. suggested adding meatloaf to NetHack about a month ago. I liked
the idea, so here is the patch:
http://michael.lehotay.com/nethack/index.html

Meatloaf is only ever generated when you cast stone-to-flesh at a
tombstone. The tomb then becomes an unmarked grave, which can be looted
the same way as marked graves. If the grave was previously undisturbed,
a ghost is summoned and your wisdom is abused. Meatloaf, when you eat
it, sometimes makes you vomit. "Two out of three ain't bad."

Since it adds a new object to the game, this patch breaks bones and
savefile compatibilty with vanilla NetHack.

Well, U would be 1/3, right? :)

Very cute. If the devteam listened to me, I'd vote for it.

Grooooooan.

About on par with some of the other puns and jokes, though.

Blessed shouldn't, then. Or perhaps BU doesn't, C does (2/3, yes?).
There should maybe be a decent chance of it being cursed -- maybe same
chance that a ghost/zombie would have come up?

The old behaviour with graves was:
You can disturb a tomb by engraving on the headstone. This summons a
ghoul, but each grave can only generate one ghoul. Also, when you dig
up a grave either a mummy or a zombie can be summoned. This is
independant of the ghouls.

My patch adds a new way to disturb a tomb. Now you can generate either
a ghost or a ghoul by messing with the tombstone, but not both. Digging
up the grave still works the same way.

Meatloaf is always generated uncursed. You guys are right, though. BUC
should probably play a role. I'll have to fix that. I think maybe I
will keep the same ratio: 1/3 are bad regardless of BUC, but effects of
bad meatloaf are different depending on it's BUC. Any
comments/suggestions?

Blessed: You lose a few nutrition points.
Uncursed: You, uh, lose a few more nutrition points and abuse
constitution.
Cursed: You lose a bunch of nutrition points, abuse constitution and
dexterity, and are paralyzed for a while.

Uhm... I dunno.

Hah! I laughed out loud when I read that, and got a few funny looks
from the other people in the computer lab. That's a great idea.

If cursed, vomit.

If blessed/uncursed, acts as a potion of sleeping of the same status.
"Let me sleep on it, I'll give you an answer in the morning."

(Actually, I considered suggesting you recode the oracle to answer that if
carrying meatloaf exposed in inventory.)

Which leads to:
If carrying meatloaf when entering Fort Ludios, the alarm changes to or is
accompanied by "Someone shrieks "Eddie!'"
("One from the vaults.")

Hmmm... there's no 'ice vault', is there?

Oh, how's this for obscure -- (blessed?) meatloaf in main inventory lets
you avoid freezing (either ice/cold or floating eye).

How about you abuse your dexterity, lose a bunch of nutrition points,
become burdened because you've just become really fat, and gain a white
scarf?

Er... I did? Not denying it, just I don't remember doing it. This
kind of thing happens to me more often than I usually like to admit.

BTW, only partially-related, but... should zapping a Wand of Undead
Turning at one of the various hunks of generic meat in the game that
get created by Stone To Flesh create a flesh golem?

Or, in slash'em, a killer tripe ration.

Hmmm... You could cast stone-to-flesh on 100 rocks to get meatballs, zap a
wand of undead turning to bring them to life, and then cast charm monster
to create an army of little familiars. That reminds me of the soot balls
in Spirited Away. Did anybody here see that movie?

Yes. Althrough I always need a few time to remind in since titles are
differents in every language... ("Le voyage de Chihiro"/"Sen to Chihiro").

And you also see soot balls (almost similar) in "My neighbour Totoro", a
previous movie by Miyazaki. See nausicaa.net for all details.

Or maybe just a horde of tribbles?
