Hi ya ppl ...

Got a problem with my very old rig. I've had it for around three and bit years now. Recently i've been getting problems such as lock ups when booting very occasionally and freezes when dialing up. Sometimes i also get this burning scent now and then.

Its a Helwett Packard 6405 bought from PC World.

Can some tell me if i have a faulty CPU and i know they don't make Celeron 400 no more so would i be entitled to a voucher upto the value of my base unit. It would cost them more to replacement the CPU, motherboard etc so i figured they would replace the whole unit.

Intel Celeron 400, ASUS Mobo, 64MB 66Mhz SDRAM, 6.4GB HDD with Win98 SE and Direct X8.1

Sorry for the long post

Cheers

Open it up and clean out the dust. Check your temperatures and see what they are as well. It's possible that you're getting poor airflow which is not only causing the burning smell, but also heat and other problems.

I would start with that at least.
