desktop turns grey

my desktop turns suddenly grey and i can´t see any items or folders anymore only grey if i press ctr alt del i can get it back for some time then it turns again grey.
what can i do, how does this happen.

Can you still see the taskbar? If so, press the "Show Desktop" button. I've had this happen when I'm FTP'ing and switching between windows. FTP window causes the screen to turn grey whenever I bring it up until I close it. It's rare but it's happened.

yes! when i could still see the taskbar i could bring the desktop with the show desktop button back for some time.
but i cant remeber that i was ftping perhaps i used morpheus, which ftp program did you use,did this also happen to you with win xp?

Yeah, it's XP. I don't use FTP programs, I just use IE6 with FTP Folder View enabled. I haven't had a problem since I installed SP1 but I also haven't been ftp'ing much. I noticed it happens when I'm multi-tasking.
