I have Windows XP Professional with 256MB of SDRAM and a Pentium 3 800MHz. When I log on I immediately try to connect to the Internet with the "Connect To..." menu on the Windows XP start menu. When I try to do this, the computer hangs and after about half a minute to a minute the menu comes up. When this happens I also cannot use any component of the taskbar (ie. the system tray, quick launch etc.) I have tried booting up with nothing selected in the System Config Utility but still nothing works. The programs running when the computer boots up are: Zone Alarm Pro 3.195, MSN Messenger, MSN Messenger Plus!, RunDLL32, ctfmon and type32 for my keyboard. I was wondering if anyone has or knows how to fix this problem.

Have the same problem sometimes. It might be the antivirus, doing the startup routine, or the network card or modem initializing.
Cause it's Windows, the best way to fix it is to reinstall it.:)
