Just discovered hearse

I just heard about hearse when reading this newsgroup, and I love this
idea!
I dowloaded it and ran it for the first time two days ago, and I can't
wait to find somebody's tomb or ghost. By the way, do I have a chance
of encountering one on my current game, or is it something decided at
the beginning of the game?

I must say though I won't offer interesting bone files, as I am a
casual player and die very early in the game.

Bones are created only at *normal* levels, mainly between level 5 to
30 i guess. So with an early game going on theres a good chance to
encouter them, but beware.. even if the player died accidentially,
your greed might overcome you :)

Still u dont know what happened and theres good chance some real nasty
monster will finish you quickly.

I would recommend to leave them, until you finish the castle level
some day, otherwise your lack of experience will only get you
frustrated.

It's only determined as you enter a level for which bones exist --
there's a one in three chance that the bones file will be loaded.

That's OK, most of the bones files on Hearse are relatively low level
for obvious reasons.

Okay, this is good news (indeed I installed hearse because I thought
most bone files I might encounter would be either from players like me
or
from more advanced players having died through sheer bad luck), but
I dont't see why it is obvious?
Is it because there are more bad than good players?

Well, good players tend not to die. So good players tend not to
produce bones. Not so good players die a lot, so they create bone
files more often. So they contribute more often.

I also suspect there are indeed more 'casual' players than 'really
good' players.

Also, many places you are more likely to die deeper in the game are
often no-bones levels. Castle, Quest Nemesis etcs.

To get to the depths of the dungeon, you must be a good / reasonably
careful player, therefore the deeper you are, the less likely you are to
die. Also, the deeper you go, the more likely you are to have picked up
kit to protect yourself from almost anything - bar your own stupidity /
bad typing.

It's just beautiful, sometimes, finding the full ascension kit of a
character who has fallen victim to something utterly trivial, which is
what usually kills characters with full ascension kits.

What's really great about this, is the subsequent discovery that
finding such loot does not make the game into a cakewalk... Great care
and skill is still required. Many have died shortly after discovering
a huge sack of loot.

Oh, most certainly. In fact I'm fairly certain it could be said that
overconfidence is a danger large enough in itself to outweigh the
benifit of almost any bones loot.

In my case it had been the greed to take every interesting item with me;
being burdened (or stressed) is really a Bad Thing and one major reason
for failure in NH.
