I upgraded my computer in 2011 with Windows 7. I am trying to download videos onto a DVD-R. My computer tells me I need to format the disc first. OK, no problem I can do that....I indicated I want to use a DVD player to Mastered vs. USB flash drive but when I hit next the window pops up that says "Windows can't read the disc in drive E:\. Please help...what am I doing wrong, very frustrated.

Does any other burning work with the drive and disks? Did this ever work? Try a demo of Nero at www.nero.com see if that will burn properly. If nothing works, you could have a bad DVD burner. Try burning a CD, sometimes either the CD or DVD pickup goes bad.

This is so odd. I was able to format the disc=A0(so I thought) but after 5 =
minutes of waiting, I still was not able to download videos or photos on th=
e DVD. When I checked the disc to see if the photos made it to the DVD, I g=
ot a message that said I needed to format the disc. I am so fraustrated.

Did you use Nero? You may just have a bad drive.

I'm with hang-the-9 on this one. If the drive is prompting you to format then it is likely bad.

You can try removing the upper/lower filters, steps found . HERE , and see if it helps.
