Western digital external hard drive problems

Drive was fine in XP, new computer with 7, USB plug-in shows "USB Device Not Recognized?" The driver is up to date, per driver upgrade site?

Hi :) 

Run a hard drive test in DOS...HIRENS CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive...

I unplugged drive, plugged in to my laptop, runs fine?--Also XP?

See if the info HERE will help you any. Seems to be a growing problem with WD's Elements drives. Could be why they aren't around anymore.

Do you still have the software that came on the drive? There are drivers for the drive located on the drives, and when removed, I have experienced this issue as well - not just hard drives, but USB sticks and other removal media.
