broadband internet connection with cable modem motorola su..

anyone know whether the mn700 is compatible with the new
cable modem by motorola: surfboard sb5100?? i could not
get ip address when i connect the cable modem to the
mn700. it was working all right before i upgrade the
modem from the motorola cybersurfr to this surfboard
sb5100. if i connect dircet between the surfboard modem
and my pc, it works okay. however when i connect the
router with the modem, the modem light on the router and
the pc/activity light on the modem keep flashing and in
the network management window only show "disconnect" and
i wouldn't be able to renew and/or obtain an ip address.
the modem and the router are trying to talk to each other
but somehow they cannot communicate. please help,
